A criminal case has been instituted in connection with the provocations committed by Armenia at the border

Information of the Press Service of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan On the night of September 12, 2022, the units of the Armenian armed forces in gross violation of the norms and principles of international law, the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and its Additional Protocols, the decisions and resolutions of the UN Security Council, and of the requirements of the Tripartite Declaration signed between Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on November 10, 2020 committed a large-scale provocation in Dashkesan, Kalbajar, Lachin and Zangilan directions of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border. The sabotage groups of the Armenian armed forces, using the mountainous terrain and existing ravines, mined the areas and supply routes between the positions of the Azerbaijani army units in different directions at night. Some positions, shelters and strongholds of the Azerbaijan Army in Dashkesan, Kalbajar and Lachin districts were subjected to intensive fire from weapons of various calibers, including mortars by the units of the Armenian armed forces stationed in the direction of Basarkecher, Istisu, Garakilsa and Gorus settlements. As a result, there are losses among personnel, military infrastructure was damaged. Decisive response measures were taken by the units of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan and the State Border Service deployed in this direction in order to prevent provocations by the Armenian armed forces and military threats to the territory and sovereignty of our country, as well as to ensure the safety of our military personnel, including civilians involved in infrastructure work in Kalbajar and Lachin districts. It should be emphasized that over the past month, the provocation of the Armenian armed forces in the direction of the Lachin, Gadabay, Dashkesan and Kalbajar districts of the state border, as well as the shelling of the positions of the Azerbaijani Army in these regions from various types of weapons, has become intense and systematic. In addition, concentration of offensive weapons, heavy artillery and manpower by Armenia along the borders of Azerbaijan was observed. Based on the materials collected in connection with the events criminal cases were launched by Ganja, Gubadli and Kalbajar Military Prosecution Offices, under Article 100.1 (planning, preparing or starting an aggressive war), 100.2 (waging an aggressive war), 116.0.7 (attack on unprotected areas, settlements and demilitarized zones), 120.2.7 (murder of two or more persons), 120.2.12 (murder with the intent of national, racial, religious hatred or enmity) and other articles of the Criminal Code. Investigative teams have been formed, and operational-search activities are being carried out. All possible investigative and operational measures are ongoing by the employees of the Prosecution Office. Necessary measures are being taken by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan within international law in order to once again expose the aggressive nature of the Republic of Armenia at the international level, in order to prosecute and punish the servicemen of the armed forces of Armenia who have committed various crimes.
