The Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan conducted an investigation about the violation on August 16 by a sabotage group of the Armed Forces of Armenia in the section of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border passing through the territory of Kalbajar region.

  During the investigation was revealed that, a group of individuals composed of members and non-members of the Armenian armed forces gathered beforehand, on August 16th, at around 11 o'clock, and illegally crossed the state border protected by the Republic of Azerbaijan.

  They carried illegal firearms and combat equipment, with the intent to illegally infiltrate from areas not under customs control and from the customs border, in order to undermine public safety in our country, create a disturbance among the population, influence the decision-making process of the state authority against territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and incite national enmity.

  The military personnel of military unit number N, located in Istisu village of the Kelbajar region of the Republic of Azerbaijan, were subjected to gunfire with illegal weapons, with the significant suspicions that they would carry out a terror act against them, aiming to cause harm to their well-being and inflict substantial damage to property.

  The tools and means of the crime were seized from the members of the sabotage-diversion group following their detention by personnel of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

  In connection with the abovementioned facts criminal case was initiated and conducting preliminary investigation was referred to the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office under the articles 206.3.2  (smuggling of firearms and ammunition on preliminary arrangement by group of persons), 214.2.1, 214.2.3 (terrorism committed on preliminary arrangement by group of persons by using firearms), 228.2.1 (Illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation and carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies, explosives on preliminary arrangement by group of persons), 283.2.1 (excitation of national, racial or religious hostility with application of violence or with threat of its application), and 318.2 (Illegal crossing border of the Azerbaijan Republic committed on preliminary arrangement by group of persons) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

  Necessary investigative measures are being carried out by the investigation group established for the criminal case.
