The Anti-Corruption General Directorate with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 114 dated March 3, 2004.
The General Directorate is a specialized body in the field of preliminary investigation of corruption crimes, and is subordinate to the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The main responsibilities of the General Directorate: to consider and investigate reports of corruption offenses; initiate criminal cases and conduct preliminary investigations of corruption offenses; conduct search operations in order to prevent, identify and disclose corruption crimes; to supervise the implementation of laws in this area when other subjects of operational-search activity carry out operational-search measures for corruption crimes on the basis of a written order from the Directorate; take measures provided for by law to compensate for material damage caused as a result of corruption crimes, as well as ensure the confiscation of property that can be used; study the state of the fight against corruption, collect, analyze, summarize information on offenses related to corruption, and prepare proposals and recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the fight against corruption; ensure the adoption of measures to ensure the safety of witnesses, victims, accused and other persons participating in the criminal process during the preliminary investigation of corruption crimes, as well as during the consideration of such cases; through the Prosecutor General to regularly inform the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Commission on Combating Corruption on measures taken in the anti-corruption field; cooperate with state bodies and other bodies in the field of combating corruption, inform the public about the measures taken and ensure the transparency of their activities, etc.
