The Department for Supervision over Investigation in the Prosecution Office is an independent structural unit of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan. 
The main responsibilities of the department: to exercise the function of overseeing the implementation of laws during pre-trial proceedings in criminal cases in lower prosecution offices, when considering information about committed or planned crimes, to study and summarize the activities of investigative control departments and divisions of the prosecution office and to form a unified practice in this area; consider complaints against decisions on applications and appeals submitted to the prosecutor's office for initial consideration; if necessary, using the capabilities of the "Electronic Crime" program, request and study criminal cases, materials and other documents on information about committed or planned crimes, information on the progress of the preliminary investigation; give an opinion on the legality and validity of the decisions taken, give written instructions to lower prosecutors to cancel illegal and unfounded decisions, conduct additional investigations or initiate a criminal case, refuse to initiate a criminal case, as well as conduct investigations or other proceedings, etc.
