The Investigation Department is an independent structural unit of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The main duties and functions of the Department: with the exception of crimes committed in the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan occupied by the Republic of Armenia, grave and especially grave crimes against peace and humanity, state power, against the person, committed in the economic or other spheres, corruption and other crimes against official interests, include conducting a preliminary investigation of crimes on behalf of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan or his first deputy, crimes committed by employees of the prosecution office, crimes committed under conditions of non-obviousness, crimes affecting public relations, which differ in their relevance in society, as well as crimes falling under the territory or the jurisdiction of several prosecutors or law enforcement agencies, to view information about upcoming or committed crimes, in order to carry out operational-search measures, give instructions to the subjects of operational-search activities, etc.
