The department is located in the new administrative building of the Prosecutor General's Office in Binagadi district, Darnagul residential area, 21 Daglig Street, 3105 block.

The Department for Supervision over Law Enforcement in Investigation, Inquiry and Operational Search Activities of State Security, Emergency Situations and Border Service bodies is an independent structural unit of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan. 
The main duties and functions of the Department: to monitor the implementation of laws during investigative and search activities of the state security bodies, emergency situations and the border service and organize the performance of the functions of procedural guidance in the relevant bodies of preliminary investigation; to monitor compliance with the terms of detention established by law for those detained or arrested, take the necessary measures for the immediate release of persons detained without legal grounds or for longer periods established by law from places of temporary detention and pre-trial detention centers; to identify and prosecute offenders, for a thorough, complete and objective investigation of all cases related to criminal prosecution, give the necessary instructions, provide practical assistance in organizing the investigation of grave and especially grave crimes committed under unexplained circumstances, and in carrying out investigative actions that need to be carried out , control the correctness of the execution and application of laws when receiving, registering and considering applications and information about crimes committed or planned in the course of the investigative body's activities and taking appropriate measures; to control the performance of search operations, the legality and validity of decisions made based on the results of these actions; ensure the cancellation of illegal and unjustified decisions and take measures in accordance with the law in relation to persons who have committed illegal actions, etc.
