Involvement in the investigation and interrogation of Safarov Nizami, who, together with Eduard Grigoryan, participated in the crimes committed on February 27-29, 1988 in the city of Sumgait

Safarov Nizami, who, together with Eduard Grigoryan, took part in the crimes committed on February 27-29, 1988 in the city of Sumgait, was identified, prosecuted and interrogated.
In his testimony, Safarov Nizami testified that Eduard Grigoryan, who lives with him in the same entrance, took an active part in these events, and pointed out to the crowd the apartments of Armenians in houses that had been pogromous. Safarov Nizami also testified that on February 28, 1988, Eduard Grigoryan, his brother Albert Grigoryan and people unknown to him in black raincoats spoke to each other in Armenian and handed out vodka to people in a QAZ-53 car. In addition, the pieces of iron in the QAZ-53 car were also distributed to the crowd there. Eduard Grigoryan himself, taking one of the pieces of iron, urged everyone to attack the Armenians. On that day, Eduard Grigoryan gave him one white pill, after taking which he felt more confident and strong, he said that he had committed these crimes under the influence of this pill.
Huseynov Vagif Vakhabali oglu, who committed crimes together with Eduard Grigoryan, died on November 22, 2006; the whereabouts of two other participants, Isaev Afsar Islam oglu and Mammedov Galiba Kadyrshah oglu, have not been established, operational measures to bring them to justice are ongoing.
Khabibov Alim Aziz oglu, convicted in connection with the Sumgait events, stated in his testimony that on February 28, 1988 he came to the Sputnik store, where he witnessed how a group of people, breaking the glass of the store, were distributing alcoholic beverages and medicines colors.
Abdullaev Haji Maharram oglu testified that in the last days of December 1987, on the eve of the Sumgait events, he was in his village in the Kafan region of Armenia. His father then said that in the center of the region, the Armenians say that the "Karabakh" Committee is preparing some kind of secret operation. The implementation of this operation was supposed to create conditions in order to "take" Karabakh from Azerbaijan and annex it to Armenia.
On February 26, 1988, his fellow villager Ali Aliyev came to visit his son, who lives in Sumgait, he greeted Ali and asked about his parents. Ali said that the Armenians are threatening again, but so far everyone is safe, but some of the residents are already preparing for resettlement. At the same time, he said that the Armenians send their messengers to the villages where Azerbaijanis live and threaten them to kill all Azerbaijanis if they do not leave the land of their own free will by February 20th. Somehow, information about this reached Moscow and information spread that a certain General Makashov arrived in Kafan and calmed everyone down. Hearing this, he calmed down that his parents were already safe. At that time, he lived with his wife and two children in his new house in Sumgait, which he built without permission in the "nakhalstroy" near the bus station, and worked as a plasterer at Construction and Installation Department No. 25 in Sumgait. In those days, they worked on the construction of the Jeyranbatan polymer plant. They left for work early in the morning by shuttle bus and returned home in the evening. From the testimony of Igor Mammadkhanovich Agayev, it is clear that at the rally organized on February 28, 1988 in front of the city party committee, most of all his attention was attracted by one of the speakers, 40-45 years old, of average height, with a beard, long hair, who spoke in a non-Azerbaijani accent. and then at around 17 o'clock in front of the crowd moving from the city party committee in the direction of the 3rd microdistrict, he saw 2 people, about the age of 30-35, one of them was of an athletic build, in a white scarf, similar on a Caucasian, and another in a long black cloak, he later reported these faces to the investigator of the USSR Prosecutor's Office during interrogation, to which the investigator said that they were also interested in this person who was wanted in connection with a murder committed in the Russian Federation, and he the surname is either Petrosyan or Poghosyan.
From the testimony of the witness Balayev Arif Atabal oglu it can be seen that while watching the programs on Azerbaijani television prepared in connection with these events, he saw one of the participants in the riots, Eduard Grigoryan, and recalled that he took an active part when on 28.02.1988 at the intersection of streets Mir and Druzhba, a green Moskvich car was turned over. The investigation established that this car belonged to the Yeseyan family. This fact was confirmed in their testimony by Rufat Binyamin oglu Mamedov and Aydin Inshalla oglu Ibishov.
In his testimony, witness Mehdiguliyev Shakir Ali oglu stated that Eduard Grigoryan, being in the afternoon of February 28, 1988, in front of apartment 17/33 "B" in the 3rd microdistrict of Sumgait, (the address where the raped sisters Lyudmila and Karina Mezhlumyan ), supervised the people who were there, gave them appropriate instructions and stood out for his organizational skills.
In his testimony, witness Huseynov Nizami Gambar oglu testified that after his arrest in connection with the Sumgit events, he met with Eduard Grigoryan, who was being held in the remand prison and during the conversation said that he had been detained for the rape of Karina Mezhlumyan. Edik Grigoryan was surprised by this and stated that he also participated in the rape of Karina Mezhlumyan, but he did not see him there. In addition, Eduard Grigoryan stated that he was charged with arson and destruction of a Moskvich car in the city of Sumgait, as well as with participation in the rape and murder of Emma Grigoryan during his stay in her house, but the investigation will not be able to prove this due to lack of witnesses.
Suleymanov Aligusein Suleiman oglu, interrogated as a witness, testified in his testimony that while working as the head of the operational department in correctional institution No. 3, he met with a resident of the city of Sumgait, Eduard Robertovich Grigoryan who was serving a sentence there. E. Grigoryan was characterized as a rude, shameless, negative person, inclined to commit crimes, and also having the qualities of a leader tried to subdue other prisoners. In connection with the personality of Eduard Grigoryan, a secret operational file was opened, where certain notes were made.
After the well-known events that took place in the city of Sumgait in February 1988, in March-April he was invited to the KGB of the Azerbaijan SSR, where the former employee of the KGB of the USSR, who asked questions about Eduard Grigoryan, was mainly interested in the operational work begun in relation to E. Grigoryan. During the conversation, he learned that E. Grigoryan worked closely with the security officials of the former USSR.

 During the investigation, residents of house no. 122, 1st micro-district of Sumgait city, where Eduard Grigoryan and his family lived, were interrogated as witnesses. In her testimony, a resident of the said house Samokhvalova Irina Alekseevna testified that she knew Grigoryan's family even before they bought an apartment in 1971 at the address of Sumgait city, 1st microdistrict, apartment 122 next to them, so that she worked together with E. Grigoryan's mother Valentina Grigoryan at the pipe rolling plant. Valentina Grigoryan's relationship with her disabled husband, whose name she now does not remember, was always good, never witnessed any conflict between them, due to lack of legal capacity due to disability, her husband was engaged in shoe repair, after his death the financial situation of the family it worsened even more, so Valentina was mostly at work, and the children were left unattended, in the behavior of Eduard Grigoryan, from a young age, there was a tendency to crime. In the course of well-known events, Eduard Grigoryan behaved very actively among people of various nationalities whom he did not know. The Sumgait events were carried out in a planned manner, under the leadership of unknown people. These were not persons living in Sumgait and holding certain positions, and they were not immigrants from Armenia, these were people whom he did not know. The Sumgait events were in the interests of the nationalist circles of Armenia.
